This is an annually unique cultural and Culinary Festival in Ho Chi Minh City in particular and in Southern Vietnam in general. The festival aims to honor and introduce cultural and culinary values of Southern land to international tourists. It is an ideal opportunity for businesses in catering service to promote their trade marks and unique specialties of localities participating in the festival.
This year festival had the participation of over 30 enterprises including tourism companies, restaurants, hotels, resorts and Tourism Information and Promotion Center of Southern provinces in Vietnam along with more than 100 culinary booths which were nicely decorated to display local specialties. Local dishes, to name a few, were braised fish with coconut juice, rice in coconut, eels simmered with coconut juice in pumpkin, and so on. Those foods aimed to introduce tourists to traditional features of Ben Tre cuisine through ingredients, processing and preparation of each dish.
In addition to Ben Tre cuisine, the Southern Cuisine Festival also introduced marine cuisine with a wide variety of seafood, culinary styles of Highlands and Saigon cuisine (Saigon known as Ho Chi Minh City). More than 100 Southern delicious dishes were introduced and served to tourists as grilled rolls, pancake, duck porridge, snail grilled with pepper and many kinds of fresh fruits…
The festival featured several attractive programs and activities such as performances of trimming, sculpting and arranging vegetables into creative artistic models. Participating in the festival, tourists had the chance to play Vietnamese folk games, cook food with the help of master chefs and even weave brocade. The cultural space of Highlands Gong and a program named “the Southern sky” with performances of Don Ca Tai Tu (a kind of Vietnamese traditional music) were held to help people to learn more about cultural values of the Central and the South of Vietnam.
